New Oakland County Community Living Program
There is a new community living program available in Oakland County, MI and surrounding counties for seniors who wish to remain independent and living in the community. This new program, offered through the Area Agency on Aging 1B, will allow seniors to access professional help to find community resources and supports that best fit their individual needs. The new program is a grant funded program where an independent living consultant is available to talk with the senior and their family to discuss resources including personal care, adult day care services, available insurance benefits, and other services to help the senior remain at home versus moving to a facility.
The exciting part of the program is that there is a cost share aspect involved, where the Area Agency on Aging may offset a portion of any home care costs. To qualify for the program a senior must be over the age of 60, require assistance with daily care needs and reside in the area that the Area on Aging 1B serves.
We’ve already recommended one of our senior clients to utilize the program as part of the integrated life care planning process that we utilize in our elder care firm. If you are interested in the program, contact the Area Agency on Aging 1B directly or contact our Elder Care Coordinator, Lisa Muehmel at (248) 481-4000 for more information.
